Job Overview

ABOUT JOLT ACTION

Jolt Action is a dedicated non-profit organization established to enhance the civic involvement of Latinos, aiming to foster a more robust democracy where every voice is acknowledged. Our mission is to empower Latinos by building their leadership skills, encouraging them to mobilize their communities, and enabling them to share their narratives through various creative and educational initiatives.

We recognize that Texas is on the brink of transformation, with a significant and often overlooked Latino demographic. Currently, one-third of eligible voters in Texas are Latino, and projections suggest that this group will constitute the majority of the state's population in the near future. However, achieving meaningful change requires more than just demographic shifts; it necessitates a grassroots movement and a strategic, long-term approach to ensure equality and empowerment for those most marginalized.

ABOUT THE ROLE

At Jolt Action, we believe that voter registration is the crucial first step towards active participation in our democracy. The Civic Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with their regional team to achieve the ambitious goal of registering 30,000 new voters. To support this initiative, we are seeking passionate, outgoing, and diligent individuals to join our seasonal, full-time team in various locations. The role requires a swift onboarding process to ensure the project's success. Our coordinators will engage with community members, emphasizing the significance of civic education and ongoing participation to drive change.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate voter registration efforts in high-traffic locations, educational institutions, and community events as directed by team leadership.
  • Encourage individuals to commit to voting and inform them about upcoming electoral opportunities.
  • Collaborate with local partners and community leaders to organize voter registration events.
  • Maintain accurate records and track data using appropriate software or spreadsheets on a daily basis.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Regional Manager to provide updates, discuss voter registration progress, and seek assistance as needed.
  • Ensure daily submission of voter registration cards for quality assurance.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding work schedules and availability.
  • Act as a representative of Jolt Action to the public.
  • Travel to various locations to conduct fieldwork, including submitting voter registration cards to local election offices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in voter registration processes in Texas is preferred.
  • Strong motivation and ability to engage with diverse communities and leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
  • Eligibility to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in Texas; prior deputization is a plus.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Access to a smartphone and a laptop or tablet is required.
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is based in Texas, and the Civic Engagement Coordinator will report to the designated team lead.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting pay for this role is competitive, with additional allowances for travel and communication expenses. Paid time off is also included.

Jolt Action is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status.
