Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at VCU Health. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patient registration data is accurate and up-to-date, while providing exceptional customer service to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register patients in the Emergency Department by securing appropriate patient and insurance information
  • Validate insurance eligibility and enter information into appropriate systems
  • Provide quality customer service to patients of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co-workers
  • Ensure that everyone is treated courteously, quickly, and with respect
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology (preferred)
  • Experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care (preferred)
  • Experience with appointment scheduling/registration (preferred)
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to frequent change. The incumbent must be able to perform daily activities with minimal supervision and function in a self-directed manner.

The incumbent is required to cover three shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled and is considered essential personnel. The position requires the ability to work in a noisy environment and handle frequent and intense customer interactions.
