Patient Scheduling Coordinator

The Patient Scheduling Coordinator at VCU Health plays a vital role in ensuring seamless patient experiences. This position coordinates and schedules appointments for patients across multiple locations and services, serving as the primary point of contact for initial consults and treatment plans.
Key responsibilities include reviewing medical records, appointment lists, and scanned documents to ensure all necessary documents are available for thorough evaluation. The coordinator will also interface with nursing staff to obtain preauthorization as required and monitor patient cancellations to process them in a timely manner.
Providing quality customer service is essential in this role, as the coordinator will interact with patients, families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co-workers. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills and a patient-centered focus, ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and courtesy.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of previous patient scheduling/registration work experience in a healthcare setting
- Strong customer service skills and patient/customer centered focus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years' work experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care, GE/IDX, Cerner order entry; appointment scheduling and medical terminology
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or closely related field
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Prolonged standing and sitting
- Frequent bending and walking
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, and logical thinking
