Position Overview:

The Patient Access Services Manager at the Stravitz Sanyal Institute for Liver and Metabolic Disease (SSLI) is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of patient access functions for SSLI services. This role involves ensuring that clinical access initiatives align with SSLI's goals and may include collaboration with various departments within VCU, VCU Health, and external organizations.

The Manager plays a crucial role in supporting both the Clinical and Research Divisions of SSLI and works closely with the VCU Health Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

In partnership with senior clinical and research leaders, the Manager is responsible for developing and implementing processes and programs that enhance patient access to clinical services.

Working under minimal supervision, the Patient Access Services Manager is expected to independently resolve routine challenges and will report directly to the Director of Nursing.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the implementation of hepatology scheduling pathways for patients seeking outpatient clinical services (30% of time)
  • Ensure alignment of patient access and hepatology scheduling pathways with SSLI care protocols (30% of time)
  • Collaborate with various departments and team members to guarantee timely patient access in accordance with SSLI care pathways (30% of time)
  • Manage clinic schedules and calendars for clinical providers (10% of time)
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with VCU and VCU Health personnel, international partners, directors, and program coordinators
  • Act as the subject matter expert on patient access for hepatology outpatient services
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of designated staff members
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to provide guidance to interdisciplinary teams in specialized areas
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proven capability to convey detailed information regarding patient access and clinical operations
  • Experience in advising on the implementation and adjustment of technological components related to scheduling pathways
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data for leadership
  • Experience in overseeing team training and access to electronic health records in relation to scheduling
  • Commitment to the organization's educational mission and strategic objectives
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting a diverse environment among faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in the field of Hepatology
  • In-depth knowledge of VCU Health's electronic health record system (EPIC) concerning patient access and clinic operations
