Position Overview

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Engage directly with organizational leadership to address Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) issues.
  • Support the maintenance of high safety compliance and awareness across various company locations and construction projects through site assessments, documentation of findings, and collaboration with local management to establish timelines for addressing any identified deficiencies.
  • Regularly interact with field teams to promote the company's EHS philosophies, expectations, and personal accountability.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, strategic plans, and training materials to enhance a robust safety culture.
  • Collaborate with other members of the CRH EHS team to formulate new EHS initiatives, objectives, and best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings organized by CRH or national safety organizations as required.
  • Conduct necessary training, including regulatory-required and CRH-mandated training.
  • Effectively manage any work-related injuries, incidents, or near misses, including:
    • Investigating incidents to identify causes and contributing factors.
    • Implementing injury prevention strategies.
    • Reporting and executing corrective actions.
    • Coordinating with Worker's Compensation TPA, General Liability, and Auto adjusters to manage cases.
  • Maintain documentation for safety and health programs (OSHA 300, monthly reporting, BLS annual surveys).
  • Prepare technical documentation for management's use in dealings with regulatory agencies and other internal/external requirements.
  • Assist with environmental compliance as necessary.
  • Consult with Human Resources on safety-related matters, including:
    • Orientation for new hires.
    • Toolbox meetings.
    • Monthly safety updates.
    • Safety incentive programs.
    • Annual safety meetings.
    • Disciplinary actions related to safety.
    • Return to Work processes.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering a safe work environment.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor while interacting with colleagues, clients, and the public, adhering to the Code of Business Conduct.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty.

Education/Experience

  • Preferred experience in road construction, asphalt paving, and manufacturing.
  • BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in industrial safety.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Familiarity with OSHA/DOT/EPA regulations related to environmental, health, and safety.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail, along with superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse employee groups.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and standards established by the industry and regulatory bodies.

  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to build relationships and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Willingness to collaborate in a team environment and assist colleagues or supervisors with additional duties as needed.
  • Ability to travel to various meetings and events at offsite locations.
