ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Rocket Launch Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in the processing of Falcon 9 flight vehicles, focusing on the swift and dependable reusability of rockets, as well as their integration and launch.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the processing of Falcon 9 vehicles to ensure rapid and reliable rocket reusability.
  • Formulate and implement procedures for the checkout and integration of both new and previously flown rockets and ground support equipment.
  • Engage in hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of both new and flight-proven vehicle components.
  • Lead critical on-site operations, collaborating with engineering teams across various departments to address off-nominal test results and guarantee flight readiness.
  • Provide guidance and direction to skilled field technicians on a daily basis.
  • Design and develop tools and hardware to facilitate vehicle assembly and conduct system testing.
  • Identify and mitigate high-risk processes during flight hardware processing, proactively implementing enhancements for operational excellence.
  • Facilitate root cause and corrective action investigations to resolve issues affecting product reliability and quality.
  • Rapidly adapt manufacturing assembly procedures based on insights gained from previous experiences.
  • Manage work orders and drive non-conformances into actionable items and system improvements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, or fluid systems in design, manufacturing, or implementation phases (internships and class projects are applicable).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Advanced degree in engineering disciplines such as mechatronics, mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or computer engineering.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in designing, building, integrating, and testing complex multi-disciplinary systems.
  • Experience in drafting test plans and procedures.
  • Involvement in projects integrating electrical, mechanical, and software systems (experience with launch vehicles or spacecraft is not mandatory).
  • Proficiency in or hands-on experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft integration, composite structure design/testing, and test operations with gases/fluids.
  • Experience working with hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases/fluids).
  • Experience with large assembly operations (e.g., crane operations).
  • Familiarity with flight hardware avionics.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous, and demanding startup environment.
  • Capacity to learn, lead, and assist others while maintaining productivity.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to pass background checks as required.
  • Physical capability to stand, lift, and carry moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 35 lbs).
  • Strong mental fitness to operate in high-concentration, high-stress environments requiring prolonged focus.
  • Flexibility in shift scheduling.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range:

  • Launch Engineer/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000 per year.
  • Launch Engineer/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year.

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis, considering job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

In addition to base salary, you may be eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock options, discretionary bonuses, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Comprehensive benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various discounts and perks.

Employees accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays annually.

Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave per year.
