Job Overview

The Mechanical Reliability Specialist serves as the primary resource for various mechanical systems within production environments. This role emphasizes local expertise and does not accommodate relocation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to address daily challenges, ensuring safe and efficient unit performance. Attend production meetings to stay informed about key activities and operational status. Conduct regular field inspections with operations, maintenance, and inspection teams to proactively identify equipment concerns and offer solutions. Act as a vital contributor during stabilization and recovery from operational disruptions.
  • Critical Work Processes: Manage Threats and Opportunities (MTO): Recognize and prioritize mechanical equipment threats and opportunities, employing problem-solving techniques to devise solutions and drive resolution. Management of Change (MOC): Create technical design foundations, facilitate technical assurance and hazard evaluations, assist with maintenance planning, lead pre-startup safety assessments, and confirm change closure activities. Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM): Oversee and enhance asset care strategies for both fixed and rotating equipment through standardized methodologies. Maintenance Execution (ME): Ensure adherence to critical planned maintenance, evaluate deferral justifications, and explore optimization opportunities. Process Safety Compliance: Implement Process Safety recommendations promptly for designated production areas.
  • Technical Delivery: Utilize technical expertise to define the detailed scope of mechanical equipment modifications. Ensure compliance with industry standards and company design protocols for all plant modifications. Assess the condition of Mechanical Equipment by utilizing various monitoring techniques.
  • Problem-Solving: Foster a causal reasoning approach within the production team. Investigate failures related to mechanical equipment issues, aiming to uncover root causes and implement robust solutions to prevent recurrence. Identify opportunities to minimize waste in work processes through LEAN and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Business Planning: Contribute to the development of a multi-year major maintenance strategy for the production area, ensuring it is credible, competitive, and promotes continuous improvement in asset integrity, reliability, and profitability. Ensure that mechanical equipment enhancements are identified, prioritized, and appropriately funded within business plan portfolios.
  • Project Management: Provide updates on project statuses and upcoming work scopes to relevant stakeholders. Collaborate in decision-making that prioritizes the site's best interests.
  • Turnaround Support: Assist in the development of work scopes and field execution for mechanical equipment. Coordinate surveillance of mechanical equipment and participate in pre-startup safety reviews and commissioning activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical engineering.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in the manufacturing sector, ideally within refining or petrochemical industries.
  • Familiarity with maintenance and reliability principles, including a solid understanding of engineering and maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment concepts, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Management of Change, and structured problem-solving.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Proven capability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • A commitment to ongoing competency development in both static and rotating equipment knowledge areas.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards and their practical application in refining and petrochemical contexts.
  • Certification as a Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) is advantageous.
