POSITION SUMMARY

The National Opera Center is on the lookout for a Chief Executive Officer who will champion our innovative and visionary approach to opera. As a dedicated non-profit organization, we focus on fostering emerging talent, producing performances in unique and intimate settings, commissioning original works, and reimagining classic operatic masterpieces. The ideal candidate will be imaginative, dynamic, and resourceful.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Artistic Leadership: Overseeing the curation and production of our opera season. This includes engaging performers, production teams, and technical staff; developing timelines; coordinating with venues; managing auditions; and organizing additional performances.

Financial Oversight: Responsible for budgeting, expense management, bookkeeping, and generating monthly financial reports and forecasts.

Fundraising Initiatives: Collaborating with the Board of Directors and development team to cultivate relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations, managing special events, and preparing grant proposals.

Staff Management: Leading and supervising the Development Manager and Marketing & Operations Manager.

Guest Experience Management: Co-managing front-of-house operations alongside the Marketing & Operations Manager, which includes overseeing box office functions, volunteer coordination, ticketing, and patron inquiries.

Board Engagement: Facilitating communication and providing administrative support to the Board of Directors.

We are primarily seeking a full-time CEO but are open to discussing a part-time arrangement for the right candidate.

Established as an artist-driven company, we strive to deliver meaningful artistic experiences through intimate and innovative operatic works. Our programming aims to resonate with both traditional and contemporary opera enthusiasts, attracting a diverse audience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities, with the ability to earn the respect and support of various stakeholders, including board members, donors, volunteers, and community members.

Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, anticipate needs, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, adapt to change, and creatively solve problems.

Knowledge of best practices in fundraising.

Leadership and administrative experience, preferably within the arts sector.
