Position Overview:

The Assistant Construction Superintendent plays a vital role in advancing the organization's home-building objectives. This position involves guiding future homeowners and volunteers in various in-house construction tasks, such as site preparation, foundation systems, rough framing, window and door installation, weatherproofing, siding, painting, flooring installation, millwork installation, interior painting, and landscaping.

This role requires interaction with Habitat staff, volunteers, homeowners, subcontractors, Habitat partners, and city inspectors.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Volunteer Leadership: Direct Habitat crew and volunteers in home construction activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  2. Skill Development: Teach essential skills to new volunteers and assist in training Crew Leads.
  3. Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections to maintain construction standards and assist in volunteer training regarding construction tasks and safety measures.
  4. Construction Oversight: Perform hands-on construction tasks as directed and supervise job sites to ensure compliance with approved plans and permits.
  5. Communication: Maintain respectful and timely communication with volunteers and partner homeowners.
  6. Site Management: Assist in site preparation and layout, ensuring all safety inspections and documentation are completed accurately.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and lead volunteers.
  • Strong multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the construction or contracting field, particularly in carpentry or framing.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with digital tools that enhance operational efficiency.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily based at assigned construction sites and requires physical activity, including climbing ladders and standing for extended periods. Employees must be able to lift and move items weighing over 50 pounds.
