Position Overview

The Senior Credit Officer (SCO) plays a pivotal role in partnering with Market Presidents to achieve the bank's lending objectives while ensuring adherence to the institution's risk management framework and credit ethos. The SCO holds substantial lending authority and is responsible for making critical decisions regarding various commercial banking credits or advances that exceed their designated authority.

Core Responsibilities

  • Authorize decisions on commercial banking credits or advances that surpass their authority threshold.
  • Work in conjunction with the Chief Credit Officer, Director of Commercial Credit, Portfolio Managers, and other stakeholders to enhance the credit process, ensuring prompt responses to clients while maintaining thorough due diligence.
  • Engage in collaborative meetings with Relationship Managers to foster strong partnerships and assess market loan pipelines alongside the Market President.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk evaluations of commercial loan applications, analyzing the borrower's business, management, industry position, and financial health.
  • Provide direction to credit support teams and Relationship Managers on risk management challenges and policy updates.
  • Interact with Bank Examiners and Loan Reviewers to ensure compliance and oversight.
  • Participate in executive loan committees and relevant user groups.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Lead and develop the team, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Align departmental objectives with the broader goals of the organization.
  • Comply with corporate policies, regulations, and mandatory annual training.
  • Adhere to regulatory standards, including BSA, AML, CIP, OFAC, and fair lending practices.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities and special initiatives.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related discipline.
Experience Required:
  • 15+ years of experience in banking, with a minimum of 10 years focused on commercial credit underwriting and loan approval.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and credit analysis skills across diverse commercial lending sectors.
  • Proficiency in SWAP derivative financing, government lending programs, and real estate valuations.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in resolving credit-related issues.
  • Knowledge of federal banking regulations and compliance laws.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
