Position Summary

The Benefit Services Outreach (BSO) Supervisor will directly report to the Benefit Services Manager and will oversee the performance of all BSO personnel. This role is essential in managing the daily functions of the Benefit Services Outreach team, including the Three Square Center, interns, and volunteers within the call center environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees all volunteer activities within the call center, including scheduling, recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers, interns, and program participants. This involves building and maintaining partnerships with community organizations.
  • Represents the organization at community and governmental meetings to provide updates and resources while ensuring effective communication back to the team.
  • Manages staff scheduling, outreach marketing, and the cultivation of outreach sites.
  • Inspires the team to deliver the highest quality of Benefit Outreach assistance to the community.
  • Provides clear guidance and accountability by communicating departmental standards and expectations to achieve optimal service delivery.
  • Acts as a liaison with community organizations to facilitate a smooth referral process and serves as the primary contact for emergency operational matters.
  • Follows up with Program Partners regarding any concerns related to staff, services, clients, or partner sites.
  • Conducts regular staff evaluations and informal site visits to ensure quality service.
  • Maintains compliance within the Senior Hunger Department and collaborates with the Senior Hunger Program team to enhance customer service and satisfaction.
  • Assists in the development of grants and budgets related to BSO programs.
  • Collaborates with the Benefit Services Outreach Manager to monitor strategic goals and assess service efficiency and quality.
  • Identifies issues and areas for improvement in collaboration with the Manager, ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Develops corrective action plans for program issues in partnership with management.
  • Communicates effectively with partners and team members to keep them informed of current guidelines and compliance information.
  • Provides regular updates on progress, challenges, and achievements to the Manager.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and manages confidential information.
  • Executes essential functions of a BSO Advocate, including:
  1. Providing eligibility prescreening and application assistance for SNAP, EAP, Medicaid, and Medicare Part D clients.
  2. Conducting interviews for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
  3. Uploading client applications to ensure timely determinations.
  4. Distributing promotional materials and advertising relevant services.
  5. Participating in community events to assist attendees with applications and referrals.
  6. Conducting marketing efforts at affordable housing complexes to inform residents about outreach initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish is advantageous.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in anti-hunger or anti-poverty initiatives; a college degree is preferred, though additional education may substitute for experience.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and maintain focus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and planning abilities.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance, with the ability to use a personal vehicle for work-related activities.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Strong public relations and customer service skills.
  • Effective public speaking and presentation capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in an office setting or at various community agencies. The role requires extensive use of computers and phones, as well as travel for community engagement. Occasional evening work and periodic travel may be necessary.
