This position focuses on assisting individuals with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other related services through eligibility assessments and application support. The Outreach Specialist is dedicated to promoting a positive perception of the SNAP Program while ensuring efficient outreach efforts and delivering exceptional service to potential clients and partner organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead outreach initiatives across various locations to boost participation in the SNAP Program.
  2. Assist potential clients with eligibility evaluations and application processes for SNAP, Energy Assistance Program (EAP), Medicaid, and Medicare Part D, guiding them on necessary documentation.
  3. Conduct interviews for SNAP benefits approval as required.
  4. Facilitate the submission of client applications to the relevant welfare services to expedite benefit determinations.
  5. Disseminate promotional materials and informational resources effectively.
  6. Maintain strong relationships with partner agencies, addressing any inquiries related to SNAP policies and outreach strategies.
  7. Collaborate with management to identify and resolve operational challenges promptly.
  8. Work with leadership to pinpoint areas for program enhancement and implement necessary policy adjustments, providing regular updates on progress and achievements.
  9. Ensure accurate record-keeping in the SNAP applicant database.
  10. Safeguard SNAP application documentation and ensure secure storage.

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in community events to assist attendees with applications and referrals.
  • Engage in marketing efforts at housing complexes to inform residents about outreach opportunities.
  • Foster a positive workplace by maintaining professional and courteous communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and provide transportation for outreach activities.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
  • Exhibit regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and demonstrate effective listening skills.
  • Capability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork orientation.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with certification in SNAP Application Assistance and Initial Interview.

Preferred: At least one year of experience in a nonprofit setting focused on customer service.

Performance Expectations:

Success in this role is measured by the Outreach Specialist's ability to effectively assist clients with SNAP eligibility and applications, thereby increasing program participation. The Specialist is expected to demonstrate initiative, collaboration, and a commitment to the organization's mission while maintaining a professional demeanor.
