Job Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Shipping Supervisor is accountable for overseeing all facets of the shipping department, directing personnel to ensure adherence to established procedures in compliance with company policies (such as SOPs, GMPs) and relevant Federal and State regulations (including USDA, OSHA). The goal is to achieve optimal productivity while meeting customer specifications and satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the shipping department by developing and refining procedures to align with shipping timelines, enhance efficiencies, and achieve or surpass budgetary goals.
  • Supervise daily operations to guarantee the effective transportation and storage of materials produced by production lines, ensuring safe loading and unloading practices to minimize contamination and damage risks.
  • Identify and relay opportunities for process improvements and strategies to mitigate recurring issues (such as product holds, accidents, and downtime).
  • Guide, mentor, and train employees, fostering career advancement and providing ongoing feedback regarding strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Implement performance enhancement plans and disciplinary measures consistently and fairly.
  • Promote and adhere to all safety protocols, ensuring compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to maintain a culture of zero accidents.
  • Ensure that the department, loading docks, and storage areas are organized and maintained according to established guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments and shifts to ensure that collective goals are met or exceeded.
  • Understand and comply with the current Union-negotiated contract when applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is a leadership role requiring competencies in assessing personnel, delegation, strategic planning, customer focus, and conflict resolution.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree with relevant coursework from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A combination of education and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in a supply chain or shipping environment; experience in perishable goods is preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience, including familiarity with timekeeping protocols, policy compliance, conflict resolution, and efficient issue resolution; prior supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Strong customer orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with all levels of the organization and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Proficient in computer and mathematical skills.
  • A self-motivated individual demonstrating initiative and urgency, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A strong customer-centric mindset, high energy, and a sense of urgency are essential.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with departmental and company safety policies and programs.
