PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Shipping Supervisor is accountable for overseeing all facets of the shipping department, guiding personnel to ensure adherence to established protocols in alignment with company policies (such as SOPs and GMPs) and compliance with Federal and State regulations (including USDA and OSHA). The role aims to achieve optimal productivity while fulfilling customer specifications and satisfaction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the shipping department by setting procedures and modifying them as needed to align with shipping timelines, enhance efficiencies, and meet or surpass budgetary goals.
- Supervise daily operations to guarantee effective transportation and storage of materials utilized and produced by production lines, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading of products to minimize contamination and damage risks.
- Identify and relay opportunities for process enhancements and strategies to mitigate or eliminate recurring issues (such as product holds, accidents, and downtime).
- Guide, mentor, and train employees, fostering career growth while providing ongoing feedback regarding strengths and areas for improvement.
- Implement performance improvement plans and disciplinary measures consistently and fairly.
- Promote and adhere to all safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to maintain a culture of zero accidents.
- Ensure that the department, docks, and storage areas are organized and maintained according to established guidelines and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments and shifts to ensure that departmental or location objectives are achieved or exceeded.
- Understand and comply with the current Union-negotiated contract, if applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
- This position is a leadership role requiring competencies in assessing personnel, delegation, strategic planning, customer focus, and conflict resolution.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree with relevant coursework from an accredited institution is preferred.
- A combination of education and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in a supply chain or shipping environment; experience in perishable goods is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience, including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy compliance, conflict resolution, and the ability to address issues efficiently and effectively; prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Strong customer orientation with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of effectively engaging with all levels of the organization and external customers in a timely and professional manner.
- Proficient in computer and mathematical skills.
- A self-motivated individual demonstrating strong initiative and urgency, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
- A strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level, and a sense of urgency are essential.
