Position Overview: Evening Custodial Technician

Purdue University Northwest's Building Services department is currently seeking an Evening Custodial Technician. This role is essential in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of designated facilities, adhering to established cleanliness standards. The technician will ensure that all custodial services are executed within set timelines while collaborating with clients to minimize disruptions and enhance satisfaction. This position may also involve coordinating, scheduling, assigning, and inspecting the work of a team of custodial staff.

Compensation:
  • $16.00 per hour
Work Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday, 5 PM - 1 AM
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the University with office, furniture, and equipment relocations
  • Disassemble and reassemble items as necessary for efficient moving
  • Collaborate with clients to determine delivery timings and placement of furniture or equipment
  • Perform various custodial tasks, including but not limited to: mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors
  • Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies
  • Clean walls and wash windows
  • Utilize various cleaning agents, ensuring proper mixing and labeling
  • Provide support in the absence of team members to meet cleaning schedules
  • Respond to service requests throughout the shift, reporting any damages or issues to the supervisor
  • Conduct clean-up operations following incidents such as floods or vandalism
  • Operate and maintain both powered and non-powered cleaning equipment
  • Work independently while ensuring the custodial needs of building occupants are met
  • Maintain public areas, including entranceways, stairwells, lounges, and hallways
  • Change light bulbs as needed
  • Carry out recycling duties, including the collection and emptying of recycling bins

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
Experience:
  • No prior experience necessary; previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues through adherence to Facilities Services values
  • Perform job duties with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer skills are required for communication and feedback
  • Provide exceptional service to both internal and external clients
  • Valid driver's license required, with compliance to Purdue University's vehicle standards
  • Physical ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and lift up to 60 lbs
  • Demonstrate a stable work history
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to travel to other PNW locations as required
