Position Overview
The Employment Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing employment assistance to adults with developmental and other disabilities under various state contracts. This position at The Opportunity Tree (TOT) requires a passionate and adaptable individual. The Employment Support Specialist will design, implement, and deliver employment support services while also providing outreach and education about available resources, all in alignment with TOT's mission, vision, and values.
Service Overview
Supported Employment Services offers employment assistance to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities through multiple contracts in various locations. These services encompass Transition to Employment, Pre-Employment Transition Services (PreETS), Career Preparation Readiness, Job Development & Retention, Individual Supported Employment, and Employment Supports. The primary goal is to help individuals secure and sustain competitive integrated employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with members to navigate the job discovery process, including brainstorming, applying, interviewing, and securing job placements tailored to individual needs and interests.
- Deliver personalized, direct support to individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of competitive integrated employment through job search skills development and placement assistance.
- Provide ongoing job support for members placed in competitive integrated employment to enhance job retention and stability.
- Assist members in developing positive work habits, attitudes, skills, and workplace etiquette relevant to their employment, fostering inclusion and independence.
- Offer tailored instruction, training, and support to promote skill development necessary for competitive integrated employment.
- Maintain accurate recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring timely submission of required documentation as per service contracts.
- Facilitate employment-related activities to enhance members' opportunities and success in competitive integrated employment.
- Conduct relevant skill, behavioral, and vocational assessments to identify members' strengths and capabilities.
- Collaborate with the member's planning team to create an Individualized Training Agreement that respects the member's preferences and ensures informed consent.
- Set individualized goals with actionable strategies and assessment methods to support members in achieving competitive integrated employment.
- Collect and report data, including tracking wages and benefits for employed members.
- Provide culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate services, ensuring accessible communication.
- Establish relationships with employers to facilitate job matches aligned with members' goals and strengths.
- Build and leverage community networks, including schools, state agencies, and employers.
- Offer job coaching support to members in community job placements.
- Represent The Opportunity Tree in member team meetings, maintaining proactive communication with members and their support teams to ensure program success.
- Collaborate effectively with Supported Employment Services staff.
- Adhere to TOT policies and procedures while maintaining all required data systems.
- Advocate for members to ensure individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a voice.
- Foster a positive work environment and collaborative relationships with members, staff, families, and funding sources.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of members while complying with safety standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding member information and The Opportunity Tree's operations.
- Promote a respectful and collaborative working environment, maintaining open communication with all stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Meet fingerprint clearance requirements.
- Complete and maintain necessary training, including CPR and First Aid.
- Experience or training in disability awareness.
- Experience in identifying strengths and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of strategies for achieving successful employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
- Experience in work readiness and employability skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as an Employment Support Professional or related credentials.
- Experience supporting individuals in obtaining and maintaining competitive integrated employment.
- Familiarity with state agencies and state-funded services.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as human services or social work.
