The role of the Student Support Specialist is essential for enhancing the overall educational experience of students. The Student Support Specialist will oversee students in various educational environments, provide behavioral guidance, and deliver academic instruction while assisting faculty with administrative tasks related to documentation and data management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively supervises students across diverse school settings (e.g., classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, laboratories, field trips, etc.)
- Builds constructive relationships with students requiring extra behavioral assistance through daily check-in and check-out protocols
- Employs suitable and constructive disciplinary methods, as directed by the Principal or designated authority, with students
- Conducts various assessments as needed
- Collaborates with administration, educators, and/or guardians when necessary
- Executes intervention and instructional strategies and lessons (e.g., social/emotional, literacy, mathematics, language, comprehension, writing, technology, etc.)
- Teaches students (individually or in small groups) in various subjects (e.g., literacy, mathematics, spelling, self-esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.)
- Maintains an orderly and organized environment; oversees classroom resources, workspace, and student records (e.g., tidying up after projects, entering data, modifying instructional materials, audiovisual tools, etc.)
- Handles record-keeping and administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, copying, data entry, instructional materials, grading, compiling lists, etc.)
- Engages positively and effectively with parents, visitors, and students, ensuring all guests are acknowledged
- Records all communications (phone calls, messages, written and electronic correspondence, verbal discussions, etc.)
- Completes tasks assigned by the principal or designated authority
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured student, conflicts, etc.)
- Participates in professional development workshops and site-based training
- Assists other staff members as needed
