Position Overview

The Employment Support Specialist is responsible for providing tailored employment services to adults with developmental and other disabilities through various state partnerships. This role requires a passionate and adaptable individual who will develop, implement, and deliver comprehensive employment support services while promoting the mission, vision, and values of The Opportunity Tree.

Service Overview

Supported Employment Services offers employment assistance to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities across multiple contracts in various locations. Services encompass Transition to Employment, Pre-Employment Transition Services (PreETS), Career Preparation Readiness, Job Development & Retention, Individual Supported Employment, and Employment Supports. The primary goal is to assist individuals in securing and maintaining competitive integrated employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with members to facilitate the job discovery process, including brainstorming, job searching, interviewing, and securing community job placements tailored to individual needs and interests.
  • Deliver personalized, direct services to individuals with disabilities to help them obtain and sustain competitive integrated employment through job search skills development and placement assistance.
  • Provide ongoing job support for members placed in competitive integrated employment to enhance job retention and stability.
  • Assist members in developing positive work habits, attitudes, skills, and workplace etiquette relevant to their employment, fostering inclusion and independence.
  • Offer individualized instruction, training, and support to promote skill development necessary for competitive integrated employment.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring timely submission of required individualized reports in accordance with service contracts.
  • Enhance members' opportunities for success in competitive integrated employment by providing relevant employment-related activities.
  • Conduct skill, behavioral, and vocational assessments to identify members' strengths and capabilities.
  • Engage with the member's planning team to create an Individualized Training Agreement that respects the member's wishes and ensures informed consent.
  • Set individualized goals with strategies, implementation schedules, and progress assessment methods to support members' employment objectives.
  • Collect and document data related to members' wages and benefits as part of the reporting process.
  • Deliver culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate services, ensuring accessible communication.
  • Build relationships with employers to create job matches aligned with members' goals and strengths.
  • Utilize community networks, including schools, state agencies, community partners, employers, and families, to support members.
  • Provide job coaching support to members in community job placements.
  • Represent The Opportunity Tree in member team meetings, maintaining proactive communication with members and their support teams to ensure program success.
  • Collaborate effectively with Supported Employment Services staff.
  • Adhere to The Opportunity Tree's policies and procedures while maintaining all data systems.
  • Advocate for members to ensure individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a voice.
  • Foster a positive work environment and collaborative relationships with members, staff, families, government agencies, and funding sources.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of members while complying with OSHA standards and other safety regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding member information and The Opportunity Tree's operations.
  • Promote a respectful and collaborative working environment with all stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a current valid driver's license with a non-restricted motor vehicle record and reliable transportation.
  • Meet AZ-DPS requirements for Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Complete and maintain all required training, including CPR, First Aid, and Prevention and Support.
  • Experience or training in disability awareness, including various disabilities.
  • Experience or training in identifying strengths and capabilities of individuals with disabilities for successful employment.
  • Experience or training in strategies for achieving successful long-term employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience or training in work readiness and employability skills.
  • Fluency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as an Employment Support Professional (CESP) or ACRE Certified, or membership in the Arizona Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE).
  • Experience in supporting individuals to obtain and maintain competitive integrated employment.
  • Experience in navigating state agencies and providing state-funded services.
  • Bachelor's degree in human services fields such as Vocational Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or Social Work.
