Position Overview

The Employment Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing tailored employment services to adults with developmental and other disabilities through various state contracts. This position at The Opportunity Tree (TOT) requires a passionate and adaptable individual. The specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering supported employment services while also providing outreach and education regarding available resources, all in alignment with TOT's mission, vision, and values.

Service Overview

Supported Employment Services offers employment assistance to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities across multiple contracts in various locations. These services encompass Transition to Employment, Pre-Employment Transition Services (PreETS), Career Preparation Readiness, Job Development & Retention, Individual Supported Employment, and Employment Supports. The primary goal is to assist individuals in securing and maintaining competitive integrated employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with clients to navigate the job discovery process, including brainstorming, applying, interviewing, and securing job placements tailored to individual interests and needs.
  • Deliver personalized, direct services to individuals with disabilities to help them achieve and sustain competitive integrated employment through skill development and job placement assistance.
  • Provide ongoing job support for clients placed in competitive integrated employment, focusing on stabilization and job retention.
  • Assist clients in developing positive work habits, attitudes, skills, and workplace etiquette, fostering inclusion and independence.
  • Offer individualized training and support to enhance skill development for competitive integrated employment.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping and reporting as required by service contracts.
  • Facilitate employment-related activities to enhance clients' opportunities for success in competitive integrated employment.
  • Conduct relevant assessments to identify client strengths and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the client's planning team to create an Individualized Training Agreement that reflects the client's preferences and goals.
  • Set individualized goals with actionable strategies and methods for tracking progress toward competitive integrated employment.
  • Collect and maintain data regarding clients' employment outcomes, including wages and benefits.
  • Ensure services are culturally relevant and accessible, promoting effective communication.
  • Build relationships with employers to create job matches aligned with clients' goals and strengths.
  • Engage with community networks, including schools, state agencies, and families, to enhance support for clients.
  • Provide coaching support to clients in community job placements.
  • Represent The Opportunity Tree in client team meetings, maintaining proactive communication with clients and their support teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with Supported Employment Services staff.
  • Adhere to TOT policies and maintain all data systems.
  • Advocate for clients to ensure individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a voice.
  • Foster a positive work environment and maintain collaborative relationships with clients, staff, families, and funding sources.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of clients while adhering to safety standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding client information and organizational data.
  • Promote a respectful and collaborative working environment with all stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Must meet fingerprint clearance requirements.
  • Completion of required training, including CPR and First Aid.
  • Experience or training in disability awareness, including various disabilities.
  • Experience in identifying strengths and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of strategies for achieving successful employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience in work readiness and employability skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as an Employment Support Professional or similar credentials.
  • Experience in supporting individuals in competitive integrated employment.
  • Familiarity with state agencies and state-funded services.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Vocational Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.
