OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE:

Contributes to the mission, vision, core values, and customer service principles of Fresenius Medical Care. Complies with the FMCNA Compliance Program, adhering to all regulatory and policy standards.

Operates as a vital member of the hemodialysis healthcare team, ensuring safe and effective dialysis treatment for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with FMCNA protocols and regulatory requirements. Responsible for the setup and functioning of hemodialysis machines while maintaining a safe and sanitary working environment. Engages in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient satisfaction and achieving FMC Quality Enhancement Goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Uphold the values and service standards of the organization.
  • Ensure exceptional service to all customers, both internal and external.
  • Foster and maintain effective communication and relationships.
  • Proactively address and resolve customer service concerns in a timely manner.

PATIENT CARE:

  • Assist healthcare team members in delivering patient-specific education regarding treatment adequacy and disease processes.
  • Greet patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment, reporting any concerns to the supervising nurse.
  • Assess vascular access for functionality and report any irregularities.
  • Collect necessary vital signs and weight before and after treatment, reporting any unusual findings.
  • Conduct vascular access evaluations and cannulations, notifying the nurse of any difficulties.
  • Administer medications as permitted by state regulations.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per physician orders, including blood and dialysate flow rates.
  • Monitor patients during treatment, addressing any issues as directed by medical orders.
  • Document all treatment-related information accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the treatment process.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as required.

MAINTENANCE AND TECHNICAL:

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to all facility policies.
  • Prepare and disinfect equipment and treatment areas between patient sessions.
  • Conduct necessary checks and tests on dialysis machines prior to use.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS:

  • Participate in quality improvement activities and document contributions.
  • Accurately enter treatment data into clinical applications.
  • Ensure patient charts are complete and properly organized.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role requires physical stamina, including lifting and moving patients, and may involve exposure to infectious materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with state certification requirements to be met.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Previous experience in patient care preferred.
  • Successful completion of training programs and certifications is required for continued employment.
