Role Overview:
As a Microbial Research Scientist, your primary responsibility will be to engage in and support both fundamental and applied research targeting specific bacterial hazards.
This position is vital for enhancing our comprehension and development of medical countermeasures against critical infectious diseases such as plague, tularemia, melioidosis, glanders, anthrax, and Q-fever.
Required Qualifications:
Must be a US Citizen.
Must possess an active Secret Clearance or have a background that qualifies you to obtain one.
Must be available for on-site work.
Ph.D. or D.V.M.
with a minimum of two years of pertinent research experience, or a Master's degree with seven years of relevant research experience in bacteriology, animal physiology, or related disciplines.
Proven experience in designing, executing, and interpreting complex scientific investigations, particularly under regulatory frameworks such as the FDA-Animal Rule.Preferred experience in high-containment environments (BSL-3 and ABSL-3).
Must successfully complete pre-employment qualifications.
Must be eligible for Biosurety Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) and Controlled Substances Personnel Reliability Program (CS-PRP) status.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, manage, and execute intricate in vitro and in vivo studies under BSL-2 and BSL-3 conditions, utilizing advanced methodologies such as organoids and organ-on-a-chip systems.
Conduct animal manipulations including observations, injections, blood draws, and euthanasia across various biosafety levels.Analyze clinical data from studies, including radiographs, clinical chemistry, and hematology of laboratory animals.
Draft animal protocols, study protocols, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publications.
Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and maintain accurate documentation and quality review of raw data.
Oversee laboratory maintenance, safety compliance, and assist in routine laboratory operations.
Maintain accountability and current records of Biological Select Agents and Toxins (BSAT) and Investigational New Drugs (INDs) applications.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
