BNBI has been pivotal in enhancing our scientific understanding of biological agents crucial for public safety and national defense. The institute comprises specialized centers focusing on bioforensic analysis and biological threat characterization.
Key Responsibilities: As a member of the National Biological Threat Characterization Center (NBTCC) at BNBI, you will engage in significant scientific research aimed at addressing critical national biodefense questions. Your research will focus on the characteristics of viral and toxin agents, contributing to preparedness and response initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field or engineering, with at least 2 years of applicable experience, or a Master’s degree.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques including cell culture, PCR, next-generation sequencing, and protein purification.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with biocontainment protocols, laboratory safety practices, and decontamination processes is advantageous.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining necessary security clearances.
- Participation in health and safety programs, including immunization and medical surveillance, is mandatory.
Primary Duties:
- Conduct advanced research in BSL-2, 3, and 4 laboratory settings, focusing on the characterization of viral and toxin agents.
- Collaborate with fellow scientists, contribute to process enhancements, and support various laboratory assays.
- Analyze experimental data, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and prepare technical documentation.
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, adhering to quality assurance standards.
- Work collaboratively to identify and characterize biological threat agents, following established protocols.
- Exhibit adaptability and effective time management skills in executing research tasks.
