Position Overview

Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join our team within the National Biological Threat Characterization Center (NBTCC). This role involves the development, management, and analysis of research focused on significant scientific inquiries that contribute to national biodefense preparedness and recovery. The research will primarily address the characteristics of viral and toxin agents.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field or engineering, coupled with a minimum of two years of applicable experience, or a Master’s degree.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including cell culture, PCR, next-generation sequencing, and protein purification.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with biocontainment protocols, laboratory safety practices, and decontamination procedures is advantageous.
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining necessary security clearances.
  • Participation in health monitoring programs and compliance with safety regulations is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in BSL-2, 3, and 4 laboratories, focusing on the characterization of viral and toxin agents.
  • Collaborate with fellow scientists, contribute to process enhancements, and assist with various assays as required.
  • Analyze research data, develop protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and prepare technical documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure the appropriate use of materials, and uphold quality assurance standards.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and characterize biological threat agents, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Exhibit adaptability and effective time management skills in the execution of responsibilities.
