Salary: $99,120,827.20 Annually

Location: Carlsbad, CA

Job Type: Full-Time

Department: Police

The Role

Important Note: This position is exclusively for individuals currently enrolled in or who have graduated from a California Police Academy. This is not a Police Recruit role.

As a member of the Carlsbad Police Department, the Law Enforcement Academy Graduate will engage in various law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Responsibilities include managing traffic flow, enforcing state and local traffic laws, conducting investigations, and performing related duties as assigned.

In certain instances, the City of Carlsbad Police Department may consider candidates who have independently completed a POST-approved basic academy. Upon successful completion of the background and application process, the academy graduate will transition into a sworn officer role and will be paired with a field training officer at the Police Department. Following the successful completion of multiple phases of field training, the new officer will be assigned to work independently.

The City of Carlsbad is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace. We recognize the importance of a culturally diverse and engaged work environment that promotes innovative excellence. Our organization values belonging, creativity, recognition, and retention of talented employees, and we are dedicated to providing equitable access to opportunities for learning and development.

Selection Process
Oral Panel Appraisal Interview: Evaluation of general experience, education, judgment, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills. Candidates deemed "Highly Qualified" will progress in the selection process.
Background Appraisal Interview: Completion and review of a detailed Personal History Statement. Candidates meeting the basic criteria will proceed with a comprehensive background investigation.
Comprehensive Background Investigation: A thorough examination of the candidate's personal history and suitability for employment as a law enforcement officer, including a required lie detection polygraph screening.
Captains' Interview: Personal interviews with the Captain of Field Operations and the Captain of Support Operations.
Final Steps: Psychological and medical evaluations are mandatory prior to hire. The Chief of Police may select any individual who has successfully completed the process. Appointments are probationary for one year.

To be placed on the eligibility list for hiring consideration, candidates must achieve a passing score at each step of the selection process.
