Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Lead Representative to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a key member of our Patient Access team, you will be responsible for leading the Inpatient Follow Up team and ensuring seamless patient registration processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Registration Super-User and Shift Lead for the Inpatient Follow Up team, providing guidance and support to staff and multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • Expedite registration functions according to priorities, ensuring timely completion of patient registrations.
  • Assist the supervisor in monitoring and coordinating staff work efforts to ensure patient registrations are completed prior to discharge.
  • Complete patient registration at inpatient bedside, including demographic, regulatory information, and signatures, and confirming insurance eligibility.
  • Review registrations for completeness and correctness, and provide support to Registration areas as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, including securing consents and regulatory signatures from patients or designees.
  • Provide information on financial care counseling resources for self-pay patients.
  • Assist in audits of regulatory documents/signatures.
  • Evaluate patient experience or internal stakeholder satisfaction issues and escalate to Supervisor or Manager as necessary.
  • Contribute to staff performance input to Supervisor to support evaluation processes.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree with two years of working experience in healthcare, hospitality, or a related industry.
  • In lieu of degree, four years of demonstrated excellence working in a patient-facing role in healthcare, such as a medical office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, computing, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with customers and working well with persons who are under stress.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative at a medical center.
  • Familiarity with hospital insurance coverage and benefits verification.
