Student Academic Advisor 2

The Student Academic Advisor 2 plays a critical role in supporting the academic success of undergraduate students in the Life Sciences Core Education Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). This position is responsible for providing academic advising to students, overseeing the course articulation process, managing and tracking course enrollment and trends, and providing instructional planning and administrative support to departmental staff, teaching assistants, and instructors.
Key Responsibilities- Provide academic advising to undergraduate students in the Life Sciences Core Curriculum Program (LSCC), including guidance on course selection, academic planning, and career development.
- Oversee the course articulation process, ensuring that courses are accurately represented in the university's course catalog and that students are properly advised on course requirements.
- Manage and track course enrollment and trends, providing data-driven insights to inform departmental decision-making.
- Provide instructional planning and administrative support to departmental staff, teaching assistants, and instructors, including coordinating course scheduling, room assignments, and other logistical arrangements.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Knowledge of campus enrollment policies, computing systems, and procedures.
- Superior skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction, as well as working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.
- Communication skills to convey information accurately, clearly, and concisely to the public, applicants, faculty, and other university offices regarding undergraduate programs.
- Ability to correctly advise undergraduate students on the full range of academic questions.
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in a workload, changes in assignment, pressures of deadlines, competing requirements, frequent interruptions, and heavy workload.
- Knowledge of confidentiality policies and ability to handle sensitive matters appropriately.
- Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures.
- Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity and listening perceptively.
This position is a hybrid eligible position, with approximately 3 days per week on-site at the UCLA campus. The incumbent will be required to complete a satisfactory background investigation and a Live Scan background check prior to the start of employment.
