Program Overview:
In partnership with the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) is dedicated to providing strategic initiatives and services that enhance degree completion and the overall development of student-athletes. Our approach is tailored to meet the distinct needs of each student-athlete, offering support in academic assistance, advising, personal development, and student services. We empower student-athletes to enrich their educational journey while fostering independence and success.

Position Summary:
The Student-Athlete Academic Support Specialist role offers insights into academic support frameworks, counseling, NCAA eligibility standards, and athletics administration. Collaborating with the Associate Directors of Student-Athlete Success, Learning Specialists, College Academic Counselors, and the Eligibility Team, this position delivers personalized mentoring to student-athletes engaged in academic support initiatives. Our focus is on aiding student-athletes in areas such as critical reading and writing, course management, organizational skills, time management, study techniques, exam preparation, program planning, resource utilization, and goal setting. This role provides a comprehensive experience, including professional development training and constructive feedback on skill enhancement.

Work Hours: Up to 15-20 hours per week, with availability required during standard business hours.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with attention to detail in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate in high-pressure situations with diverse individuals, including students and academic staff.
  • Willingness to attend in-person training sessions.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
  • Must provide appropriate identification for employment eligibility verification.
  • Compliance with health and safety protocols as required.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-person support on campus for the academic year.
  • Assist student-athletes in becoming competent and confident learners by promoting academic skills and critical thinking.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule for mentoring sessions.
  • Evaluate and report on student-athlete progress, fostering accountability.
  • Participate in all required training and professional development sessions.
  • Perform administrative tasks and complete projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to department policies, academic integrity standards, NCAA regulations, and confidentiality agreements.
