We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Academic Advisor to join our team in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The successful candidate will provide academic advising and support services to undergraduate students, manage special programs, and collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure the success of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized academic advising to undergraduate students, including course selection, major declaration, and degree progress tracking.
- Manage and coordinate special undergraduate student programs, such as peer advising services, student surveys, and departmental scholarships and awards.
- Review and approve major change and course substitution petitions, and manage enrollment problems in undergraduate courses.
- Assist with updating handouts and articulation agreements, and ensure information accuracy.
- Coordinate grade reports and grade changes for faculty, and supervise work-study students and CAMs.
- Assist in the coordination of departmental events, such as the annual Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference and Departmental Graduations.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with students, staff, and faculty.
- Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Skill in answering a multi-line telephone in a timely and friendly manner.
- Ability to work independently and organize the workload.
- Ability to work with constant interruptions and to remain friendly and helpful.
- Skill in setting priorities which reflect importance of job responsibilities.
- Grammar and punctuation skills sufficient to compose correspondence.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted counseling methods and intake techniques.
- Skill in supervising a group of individuals.
- Skill in working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues.
- Knowledge of general research guidelines.
- Ability to interpret and implement policies as they relate to scholarship and award programs.
