Position Overview

Sign-On Bonus Available

The University of Utah Health is initiating a program aimed at attracting and retaining skilled professionals. This initiative includes a signing bonus for newly hired employees at a .50 FTE or greater.

  • The first payment is issued within the first 30 days of employment.
  • The second payment is provided after one year of service.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be external candidates.
  • Employees who drop below a .50 FTE within the first twelve months will forfeit future bonuses.
  • Former employees must be separated for at least three months to be eligible for rehire bonuses.

Bonus Structure:

  • At a .90 FTE, receive $675 within the first 30 days and $1125 after one year.
  • At a .75 FTE, receive $562 within the first 30 days and $937 after one year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the scheduling of inpatient admissions and outpatient visits, ensuring necessary tests and consultations are arranged.
  • Verify third-party payments and pre-transplant benefits, assisting families in exploring alternative funding sources.
  • Facilitate the pre-transplant education process, covering insurance, donor search, clinical needs, and support requirements.
  • Monitor and address the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients and families throughout the transplant process.
  • Communicate essential patient information during Bone Marrow Transplant conferences.
  • Coordinate with donor centers for the timely shipment and delivery of marrow.
  • Initiate unrelated donor searches through the National Marrow Donor Program and other registries.
  • Advise patients and referring physicians on optimal donor search strategies based on HLA type and clinical conditions.
  • Review and present search results to the BMT attending or referring physician and provide updates to patients and insurance companies.
  • Gather clinical information for transplant treatment plans and arrange for the transport of donor marrow.
  • Provide clinical updates to donor centers and insurance companies, following up with referring physicians as needed.
  • Coordinate the transition of post-transplant care to referring physicians.
  • Maintain a clinical database for bone marrow transplant patients.
  • Enter orders within the EMR for providers.
  • Ensure systematic communication with providers throughout the coordination process.
  • Request tissue re-typing for patients, families, and prospective donors as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to deliver care to the served population.
  • Strong human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Capability to coordinate the entire transplant process from initial consultation to transplant.
  • Ability to educate patients and families about the transplant journey.
  • Critical thinking skills applied to the nursing process.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of healthcare experience.

Licenses Required:

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with third-party payers.
  • Experience in a bone marrow transplant program or hematology/oncology.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to perform light work, potentially exerting up to 20 pounds, and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling medical equipment.
