The Medical Review Coordinator (MRC) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the medical review process for transplant donor charts, ensuring thorough preparation for eligibility assessments. This position also involves assisting in the management of research and discard designated donor charts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting comprehensive medical reviews of transplant charts to facilitate timely releases.
- Managing the release of research and discard charts efficiently.
- Supporting the training of personnel in the release of donor charts for research initiatives.
- Providing immediate feedback to staff regarding donor chart completion and coordination, along with generating summary reports for leadership.
- Collaborating with Operational, Executive, and Medical Directors on medical history inquiries.
- Upholding exceptional customer service standards with referring hospitals and related organizations.
- Ensuring compliance with Federal HIPAA regulations and completing mandatory annual HIPAA training.
- Following up with coordination teams to secure all necessary legal information for donors.
- Completing annual training as mandated by institutional policies.
- Participating in established Quality Assurance protocols and assisting with routine monitoring as needed.
- Executing special projects as directed by the Quality Assurance & Donor Eligibility Supervisor.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Problem Solving
Individuals in this role are expected to possess a solid understanding of departmental policies and procedures, as well as familiarity with institutional operations to effectively assist staff and visitors. Sensitivity to the needs of others while maintaining a helpful demeanor is essential.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, requiring nearly continuous sitting, hearing, and communication. Occasional repetitive hand motions, such as typing, and walking are also involved, with rare instances of bending or reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
An Associate's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (where one year of education may substitute for two years of related work experience) is required, along with two years of relevant experience. Strong logical reasoning and effective communication skills are essential. This role is sensitive to patient interactions, necessitating compliance with immunization standards as per CDC guidelines and institutional policy.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software, is advantageous.
