Work Environment: Clearwater Paper's Augusta mill is strategically located along the Savannah River, straddling the Georgia and South Carolina border. This facility specializes in the production of light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard, boasting a robust capacity of approximately 600 thousand tons. With a dedicated workforce of over 700 employees, the Augusta mill has a rich history of nearly 65 years in operation. Spanning 3,000 acres, it features two paper machines capable of producing 1,940 tons daily. As Clearwater Paper's largest paperboard manufacturing site, it plays a pivotal role in the company's strategic vision and future success.

Role Responsibilities: The Pulp Maintenance Lead will oversee and coordinate the activities of a team comprising around 7 Maintenance Mechanics and 2 Electricians. Key responsibilities include:
  • Planning and supervising maintenance tasks to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Collaborating with operational management to schedule and complete preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Initiating work orders to rectify unsafe conditions and participating in maintenance planning meetings to prioritize tasks.
  • Addressing urgent maintenance issues in collaboration with operational teams.
  • Providing technical guidance and innovative solutions during planning sessions to optimize mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Prioritizing work assignments for maintenance personnel and consulting on contracted services.
  • Working closely with the Reliability team to implement preventive maintenance strategies and equipment modifications to mitigate downtime.
  • Promoting safety best practices and fostering a culture of safety through active engagement with the team.
  • Managing maintenance personnel in alignment with company values and objectives.
  • Assisting in the scheduling of work assignments and addressing personnel matters.
  • Ensuring that all necessary plans, schedules, and materials are prepared for effective task execution.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of maintenance strategies.
  • Collaborating with production teams to identify operational challenges and equipment enhancement opportunities.
  • Educating maintenance and operational staff on technical fundamentals.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience with computer-based Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or SAP for maintenance record management.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to estimate labor and material costs for maintenance tasks.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks, including lifting and using various tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed to support operational requirements.
