This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and facilities operations of the Richmond County School System. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in architecture, engineering, and construction management, with experience in leading teams and managing budgets.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate with schools, departments, and the Maintenance Department to ensure that facilities are safe, comfortable, and conducive to learning.
- Recruit and recommend assignments for competent personnel.
- Inspect school and office buildings periodically to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Assume responsibility for the comprehensive planning and scheduling of maintenance requirements.
- Ensure that standards consistent with all applicable laws are maintained.
- Conduct cost analysis programs of departmental expenditures and recommend budget requirements.
- Recommend maintenance employees for initial employment and advancement.
- Maintain a current knowledge base of Federal, State, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct training and staff development programs for maintenance employees.
- Write detailed specifications for supplies, materials, equipment, and local contract work.
- Establish a regular scheduled preventative maintenance program.
- Inspect buildings to verify maintenance of acceptable standards of workmanship.
- Maintain records as needed and required.
- Coordinate the purchase of materials and equipment for maintenance.
- Develop an emergency preparedness plan for equipment breakdowns and power failures.
- Maintain accurate inventory control for all maintenance department supplies and equipment.
- Maintain daily operational control of the computerized energy management system.
- Maintain and pay bills for all utilities.
- Organize and supervise the Department of Architectural Services.
- Design and supervise construction of renovations to existing facilities.
- Confer with consulting architects and engineers during the design and construction of new facilities.
- Advises the Board of Education on site selection for proposed future facilities.
- Review plans and specifications prepared by consulting architects and engineers to ensure compliance with state and local requirements.
- Make periodic inspections of all construction sites.
- Coordinate the Five-Year Facility Plan.
- Prepare and provide drawings for construction seals.
- Ensure conformity with all appropriate Georgia and Federal Law, State Board of Education, and Richmond County Board of Education Policies, Rules, and Regulations.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
- At least five years of experience in architecture, engineering, and/or construction.
- Documented senior leadership experience.
- Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance, and resource management skills.
- Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, and provide leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a standard office environment and be able to sit at a desk, conference table, or in meeting rooms of various configurations for extended periods of time. Occasional overtime and night work are required. Attendance at evening School Board meetings, presentations, ceremonies, and school programs is required. Respond to emergency calls at any time. Requires traveling to various sites on a frequent and unscheduled basis.
