Job Overview

The Credit Analyst II position at Amerantbank is pivotal in delivering a thorough, independent evaluation and recommendations regarding risk factors tied to substantial and intricate structures and transactions within the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) and Corporate sectors. This role is essential in supporting credit risk management and ensuring the integrity of credit quality for the assigned portfolio through vigilant monitoring of relationship trends, resolution of exceptions, and comprehensive assessment of credit risk and other critical elements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize financial spreading software to analyze financial statements, preparing detailed analyses and credit approval documentation in accordance with the bank's credit policies.
  • Conduct meticulous reviews of the financial health and operational performance of commercial and corporate entities for new and existing loan exposures, including modifications of terms and conditions.
  • Provide an unbiased evaluation of risk factors associated with various lending structures, including revolving credit lines, trade financing, and asset-based loans, while making informed recommendations regarding loan conditions and covenants.
  • Achieve the objective of completing at least one large and complex financial analysis weekly with a high level of accuracy, while identifying loan policy exceptions and industry-specific risks.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to enhance the quality of underwriting information and serve as a consultant on credit-related issues.
  • Act as a resource for business lines and engage with senior management on various credit-related matters.
  • Support operational roles within the department as needed.
  • Assist in training new credit analysts and interns, guiding them through departmental procedures and credit analysis formats.
  • Identify, assess, and recommend actions to mitigate current or potential risks to earnings or capital arising from non-compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations related to BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and other AML issues.
  • Participate in committees and external organizations, representing the Credit Services Unit and the bank.
  • Contribute to the loan structuring process and review legal covenants to ensure compliance with bank policies.
  • Work with Portfolio Management to administer and monitor upcoming maturities, modifications, and risk ratings, while identifying potential issues within the portfolio.
  • Conduct analysis and underwriting to support portfolio managers, including documentation preparation and compliance with credit policies.
  • Operate loan origination and modification software systems effectively.
  • Perform annual reviews of existing credit relationships, recommending changes in risk ratings as necessary.
  • Monitor the assigned portfolio for compliance with bank policies regarding credit, collateral, and documentation.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections as required.
  • Engage in ongoing training to stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends.

Education and Certification Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance is required; a Master's degree is preferred, or 3+ years of commercial credit analysis experience may be considered in lieu of education. Formal credit training is mandatory.

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in lending and/or credit analysis is required, along with a solid understanding of banking products and documentation.

Essential Knowledge:

A comprehensive understanding of the bank's credit procedures, programs, and policies is crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required, and experience with Salesforce, nCino, or FIS IBS is advantageous. Strong time management, organizational skills, and effective communication abilities are essential.
