Job Overview

Lead and manage all credit-related functions for the designated area:

Credit Evaluation: Accountable for delivering a comprehensive, impartial evaluation and recommendation regarding risk elements linked to Commercial and CRE loans within the specified region. Additionally, oversee the assigned credit analysts in executing credit evaluations, conducting annual assessments, and providing regular updates to management concerning pipeline status, production metrics, and turnaround times.

Portfolio Oversight: Supervise the team tasked with maintaining the credit quality of the portfolio, ensuring proper administration and monitoring of credit standards for the Commercial and CRE loan portfolio in the designated area. This includes tracking portfolio trends and individual loan relationships, focusing on credit covenants, triggers, and exceptions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an impartial and thorough evaluation of risk factors associated with Commercial and CRE loans in the assigned area.
  • Organize and guide a team of credit analysts, ensuring timely and precise credit recommendations for loan requests while adhering to credit policies and banking regulations. Make informed suggestions regarding conditions and covenants related to loan structures to effectively address associated risks.
  • Underwrite and assess large and/or intricate loans as assigned. Conduct accurate reviews of the financial status and operational performance of commercial and corporate entities, achieving a minimum of one (1) financial analysis weekly with a high level of precision in figures and risk assessment.
  • Evaluate and analyze personal financial statements and tax returns to determine the financial strength of individual guarantors.
  • Conduct annual reviews of existing credit relationships, recommending adjustments in risk ratings as necessary. This includes calculating covenant testing requirements as needed. Identify, monitor, and track loan policy exceptions, reviewing credits with loan covenants and verifying compliance.
  • Perform site visits and inspections, reporting findings as required.
  • Monitor the assigned portfolio for compliance with Bank policies regarding credit, collateral, and documentation exceptions, recommending appropriate actions when necessary.
  • Provide weekly updates on the credit analysis request pipeline, assigning credits to analysts, and overseeing their work to ensure established turnaround times are met.
  • Engage with Sponsors/Borrowers and collaborate with Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers to enhance the quality of information required for underwriting. Serve as a consultant to business lines regarding credit issues, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist in the loan structuring process and review legal covenants in accordance with the Bank's policies and procedures. Collaborate with the Head of Segments and Relationship Managers, working with other bank units such as Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Credit Services, and Credit Risk.
  • Work with Portfolio Management on the administration, monitoring, and timely renewal of upcoming maturities, processing modifications, risk rating processes, exceptions, and covenants, while identifying potential issues within the portfolio.
  • Utilize software systems for loan originations, modifications, annual reviews, and presentations to senior management.

Portfolio Management Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the portfolio management team for the assigned area, ensuring their responsibilities are met:
    • Provide transactional support in the loan approval process by assisting Relationship Managers with the development of proposals, term sheets, and credit memos while maintaining a clear understanding of the Bank's credit programs and policies. Collaborate with other bank units to streamline processes and maintain report accuracy and credit quality.
    • Coordinate and conduct analysis and underwriting functions as needed. Support new business activities by screening preliminary data and following up on required documentation to ensure conformity with the bank's credit underwriting policy.
    • Oversee the annual review process of existing credit relationships, recommending changes in risk ratings as appropriate. This includes calculating covenant testing and risk rating trigger requirements. Monitor credit policy exceptions and verify compliance.
    • Manage the administration and monitoring of maturities and delinquencies, including regular reports on criticized assets, while identifying potential issues within the portfolio.
    • Conduct site visits and inspections, reporting findings accordingly.
  • Coordinate portfolio management activities with the assigned team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Participate in seminars and training sessions to stay informed about changing regulations and industry trends.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and mentor team members to enhance their understanding of the role and provide better support to Relationship Managers and other bank units.
  • Act as a resource for business lines and collaborate with senior management on various issues as needed.
  • Provide backup support for other operational roles within the department as required.
  • Identify, evaluate, monitor, and recommend necessary actions to mitigate risks to earnings or capital arising from noncompliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Ensure compliance with current rules and regulations related to BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and other AML issues.
  • Engage in various committees and/or external organizations, representing both the Credit Services Unit and the Bank.

Minimum Education and Certification Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance is required; a Master's degree is preferred, or 7+ years of commercial credit analysis experience may be considered in lieu of education. Formal credit training is mandatory.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:

10+ years of professional experience in Commercial and CRE lending and credit analysis, with a strong understanding of banking products and documentation.

Technical and Essential Knowledge:

A thorough understanding of the Bank's credit procedures, programs, and policies is essential. Knowledge of accounting and credit principles is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is necessary, and experience with Salesforce, nCino, and FIS IBS is a plus. Strong time management and organizational skills are essential, along with excellent communication abilities.
