Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher role is pivotal in supporting the educational environment for children aged 0-5 years within our Early Head Start and Head Start programs. Collaborating closely with the lead educator, the Assistant Teacher ensures the effective functioning of the classroom while fostering the developmental progress of each child.

Our Early Head Start program caters to income-eligible children from birth to age 3, while the Head Start program serves children aged 3 to 5, ensuring inclusivity for all families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of child development principles to engage with children and communicate effectively with families and stakeholders.
  • Implement a child-focused daily routine and curriculum that fosters positive social interactions and learning.
  • Adhere to the established curriculum, providing opportunities for play and hands-on experiences tailored to individual learning styles.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Support the implementation of Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) for children with special needs.
  • Encourage parental involvement in curriculum development and educational discussions.
  • Coordinate and conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences to discuss child development.
  • Keep regular communication with parents and maintain necessary documentation regarding child progress.
  • Assist in collecting and managing data for assessment and program planning.
  • Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and events.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • CDA credential or an Associate's/Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred (or a commitment to obtain one within two years of hire).
  • Completion of a physical examination and background checks is required.
  • Local travel may be necessary for work-related functions.
  • A valid state-issued ID is required; a driver's license is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation is essential.
  • Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and basic data systems.
  • Dependability and the ability to meet deadlines are crucial.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
