Educational Support Specialist

Under general supervision, the Educational Support Specialist provides specialized educational services to students with disabilities and behavioral challenges, adhering to state and federal regulations. This role involves creating and executing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the developmental needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:- Designs and implements instructional strategies aligned with the school's educational objectives and the students' IEPs.
- Develops IEPs for students with disabilities and ensures their effective implementation, utilizing assessment data to make necessary updates.
- Delivers direct educational instruction to designated students.
- Employs diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate varying student needs, which may involve modifying or creating instructional materials.
- Monitors student behavior, maintains classroom discipline, and employs de-escalation techniques for inappropriate behaviors.
- Collects data for Functional Behavioral Assessments and assists in the development of Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Collaborates with therapeutic staff to implement treatment strategies.
- Participates in treatment team meetings to provide educational insights on student progress.
- Facilitates transition planning for students preparing to reintegrate into traditional educational settings.
- Engages with multidisciplinary teams, including community organizations, to support educational and therapeutic objectives.
- Communicates with parents regarding their children's educational and therapeutic progress through written reports and phone calls.
- Supervises off-campus activities and outings.
- Oversees assigned teaching assistants.
- Acts as a case coordinator for assigned students, consulting with caregivers and educational professionals to address student needs.
- Maintains student records in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Ensures equitable treatment of all students and fosters effective interactions with students, colleagues, and families.
- Engages in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- A degree in special education and certification in at least one area of disability as recognized by the relevant educational authority.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
- Ability to utilize various classroom tools and equipment.
- Must be capable of lifting and moving objects as necessary.
- Physical demands are consistent with light work, involving standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to monitor student safety and well-being during activities.
- Capacity to motivate and engage students effectively.
- Skills in maintaining an organized and clean classroom environment.
- Proficiency in performing clerical tasks.
- Ability to uphold classroom order and discipline.
