ABOUT FAMILY & CHILDREN'S PLACE

Family & Children's Place is an equal opportunity nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving family unity and providing essential emotional support to families. Since 1883, we have been a vital resource in Louisville and southern Indiana, assisting our most vulnerable populations—children—often safeguarding them from abuse and neglect. Our commitment to this community drives us to work collaboratively to enhance lives. Our mission is to address societal needs, support families through challenges, advocate for those in need, and contribute positively to the well-being of the communities we serve.

Our ongoing success relies on attracting, selecting, and retaining skilled and motivated staff. We seek individuals who are eager to make a career out of compassion and are dedicated to delivering high-quality services to our clients. Our workforce shares a passion for their roles, which is why we cultivate a supportive workplace culture that allows for professional growth.

ABOUT HEAD START

Head Start programs are designed to prepare vulnerable young children for success in school and beyond. To achieve this, they provide services to children and families in key areas of early education, health, and family well-being, actively involving parents throughout the process.

Head Start includes preschool programs for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as Early Head Start programs for infants, toddlers, and expectant mothers. These services are delivered nationwide through 1,600 agencies that adapt the federal program to meet local family needs.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FAMILY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

This role entails delivering early, ongoing, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support services to eligible families through regular home visits and scheduled socialization activities. Each Family Support Specialist will create, plan, and implement developmentally appropriate experiences that align with all Head Start component areas, school readiness objectives, and the unique needs of each child.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FAMILY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

  • Associate's degree in child development, education, social sciences, or a related field, or a willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and families in a human services environment.

Do you possess strong verbal and written communication skills? Are you organized and detail-oriented? Can you prioritize tasks effectively while managing your time well? Do you maintain a friendly and professional demeanor? If you answered yes to these questions, you may be an excellent fit for this family support role.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A FAMILY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

This full-time position offers a somewhat flexible schedule that typically accommodates parent availability. However, there are departmental activities that require staff participation at designated times. Some weekend and evening hours may be necessary based on client needs, but generally, this role involves standard daytime hours.

INTERESTED IN THIS OPPORTUNITY?

We value your time, which is why we have streamlined our application process. If you believe you have the right qualifications for this role within our nonprofit, we encourage you to complete our initial mobile-friendly application. We look forward to the possibility of working together.
