Position Overview

We are seeking a Model-Based Space Systems Engineer - Engineering Specialist, Digital Engineering. The ideal candidate will apply innovative MBSE strategies for both new and existing space, ground, and launch systems, providing guidance to internal teams and external government clients on the effective application of MBSE methodologies, modeling languages, and tools.

Work Arrangement

This role offers a hybrid work model, allowing for a combination of remote work and on-site responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and assess architectural and engineering models utilizing various modeling languages such as SysML, UAFML, BPMN, among others, to support clients involved in the acquisition, development, integration, and operation of space systems.
  • Integrate MBSE practices into internal research and development initiatives and advise clients on MBSE implementation in their projects.
  • Guide clients in selecting appropriate MBSE methods, languages, and tools tailored to their specific use cases.
  • Conduct training sessions for Aerospace teams and government clients on MBSE adoption and execution practices.
  • Share insights, lessons learned, and best practices within Aerospace and external MBSE communities through publications and presentations.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to junior staff within the MBSE Department and across Aerospace as needed.

Qualifications for Success

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in one or more MBSE modeling languages (SysML, UAFML, LML, etc.), methodologies (OOSEM, SysMOD, MagicGrid, etc.), and tools (Cameo, Cameo Simulation Toolkit, Sparx, Rhapsody, GENESYS, etc.).
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in space systems engineering, including modeling methods and analysis.
  • Familiarity with core space system segments (space, ground, transport, launch, etc.) at various levels of abstraction.
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • A proactive individual capable of leading technical teams and initiating new projects.
  • Experience in comprehensive aspects of space systems engineering, including architecture, design, and analysis, with knowledge of architecture frameworks (DoDAF, UAF, TOGAF).
  • Possession of an active Top Secret or DOE-Q clearance, issued by the U.S. government, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with querying object-oriented models using Object Constraint Language (OCL).
  • Background in digital engineering or data engineering (e.g., AWS, databases, APIs, Kafka).
  • Teaching experience in technical subjects and relevant certifications from OMG or INCOSE.
