Position Overview:

Nakupuna Companies is seeking a Certified Splunk Engineer to facilitate the effective deployment of the Splunk Enterprise platform and its associated Add-ons across various applications within the Naval Supply & Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC). This role is crucial for enhancing the operational efficiency of NAVSUP BSC applications through the development of robust alerts, reports, searches, visualizations, data models, pivot tables, and dashboards based on log data and database logs processed by Splunk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, update, and configure Splunk Enterprise software across all NAVSUP BSC applications.
  • Conduct technical assessments of log data and database logs to ensure proper formatting and accurate data collection.
  • Develop and implement a mentoring program to train NAVSUP BSC personnel on Splunk functionalities and requirements.
  • Install and configure Add-ons, including Compliance Essentials for Splunk.
  • Create, configure, and refine dashboards, searches, alerts, pivot tables, data models, and reports for NAVSUP BSC applications.
  • Document all Splunk-related tasks and requirements as specified by the client.
  • Provide regular status updates on tasks, duration, resources, dependencies, completion percentage, and any issues encountered.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical, organizational, and planning skills, alongside strong communication abilities (both written and verbal). Candidates should demonstrate problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail, and solid judgment. A minimum of three years of specialized experience in the following areas is required:

  • Certified Splunk Engineer.
  • Expertise in Splunk configuration and administration.
  • Proficiency in developing and troubleshooting Splunk searches, reports, alerts, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Experience in configuring and modifying the Splunk Enterprise app, DB Connect app, Compliance Essentials, and Splunk Add-ons.
  • Ability to analyze log files from various information systems.
  • Experience in deploying and configuring Search servers, Splunk Deployment servers, clustered Indexers, and forwarders, with knowledge of data collection methods such as Syslog, JDBC, or API.
  • Experience onboarding new data sources into Splunk and analyzing data for anomalies and trends.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments for editing and maintaining Splunk configuration files and apps.
  • Experience collaborating with Government cybersecurity teams and end users to troubleshoot and assist in creating Splunk search queries, alerts, reports, and dashboards.
  • Knowledge of Federal regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in project management and understanding the software development life cycle, including scrum methodologies.
  • Expertise in creating access controls for Splunk users.
  • Experience extracting complex fields from log files using Regular Expressions.
  • Experience setting up Splunk Objects such as Event types, Tags, Field Extraction, and Lookups.

Education and Certification:

A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as engineering or computer science is required. Candidates should also possess CompTIA Security+ CE certification or equivalent certifications such as CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCP. Additionally, candidates must hold one of the following certifications:

  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin
  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect
  • Splunk Cloud Certified Admin
  • Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin
  • Splunk Certified Developer

Work Environment:

This position allows for remote work with minimal travel requirements. Candidates must be able to qualify for and obtain a base access pass and pass a National Security Agency Check (NACI) including an FBI fingerprint check. A Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or equivalent investigation is required.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be able to perform repetitive motions with hands, engage in audible communications in emergencies, and sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
