Position Overview:

Nakupuna Companies is seeking a Certified Splunk Engineer to facilitate the effective implementation of the Splunk Enterprise platform and its associated Add-ons across various applications within the Naval Supply & Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC). This role is crucial for developing and maintaining comprehensive alerts, reports, searches, visualizations, data models, pivot tables, and dashboards derived from log data and database logs ingested by Splunk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and update Splunk Enterprise software across all NAVSUP BSC applications.
  • Conduct technical assessments of log data and database logs to ensure accurate data collection and formatting.
  • Design and implement a training program for NAVSUP BSC personnel on Splunk functionalities and requirements.
  • Install and configure Add-ons, including Compliance Essentials for Splunk.
  • Create and refine dashboards, searches, alerts, pivot tables, data models, and reports for application and information assurance teams.
  • Document all Splunk-related tasks and requirements as specified by the client.
  • Provide regular status updates detailing task progress, duration, resources, dependencies, completion percentage, and any issues encountered.
  • Compile lessons learned, best practices, and standard operating procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities. A minimum of three years of specialized experience in the following areas is required:

  • Certification as a Splunk Engineer.
  • Extensive experience in Splunk configuration and administration.
  • Proficient in developing and troubleshooting Splunk searches, reports, alerts, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Experience with configuring and modifying the Splunk Enterprise app, DB Connect app, Compliance Essentials, and various Splunk Add-ons.
  • Ability to analyze log files from diverse information systems.
  • Experience in deploying and configuring Search servers, Splunk Deployment servers, clustered Indexers, and forwarders, with knowledge of data collection methods such as Syslog, JDBC, or API.
  • Expertise in onboarding new data sources into Splunk and analyzing data for trends and anomalies.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments for maintaining Splunk configuration files and applications.
  • Experience collaborating with government cybersecurity teams and end users to create effective Splunk search queries, alerts, reports, and dashboards.
  • Knowledge of federal regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in project management and understanding the software development life cycle, including agile methodologies.
  • Expertise in creating access controls for Splunk users through active directory groups.
  • Proficient in extracting complex fields from log files using Regular Expressions.
  • Experience in setting up Splunk Objects such as Event types, Tags, Field Extraction, and Lookups.

Education and Certification:

A bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as engineering or computer science is required. Candidates should hold CompTIA Security+ CE certification or equivalent certifications such as CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCP. Additionally, candidates must possess one of the following certifications:

  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin
  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect
  • Splunk Cloud Certified Admin
  • Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin
  • Splunk Certified Developer

Work Environment:

This position allows for remote work with minimal travel requirements. Candidates must be eligible for military installation access and undergo a background investigation.

Physical Requirements:

The candidate must be able to perform repetitive motions with hands and wrists, engage in audible communications during emergencies, and sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
