Position Overview

The Detroit Medical Center is in search of a skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our esteemed healthcare team.

Role Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic interventional examinations using advanced imaging technology. Your duties will include:

  • Confirming patient identity and reviewing medical records to ensure the appropriateness of the procedure.
  • Conducting patient interviews to gather and verify medical history, assessing any potential risk factors.
  • Providing a comprehensive explanation of the procedure to patients, including possible side effects, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Setting up imaging equipment and capturing necessary images as per established protocols.
  • Reviewing acquired images, making preliminary observations, and documenting any deviations from standard procedures.
  • Recognizing and responding effectively to medical emergencies as they arise.
  • Delivering post-procedure care instructions as prescribed by the physician.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives within the radiology department, focusing on patient care and satisfaction.
  • Offering educational support to residents, student technologists, and new staff members.
  • Being available for on-call duties as required by the department.
  • Occasionally performing the responsibilities of a Radiologic Technologist when necessary.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology (RT) or Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) or Cardiovascular-Interventional (CV).
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) training by the end of the orientation period.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire for those in adult settings or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one year for those in cardiology settings.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under stress.
  • Technical proficiency in operating specialized imaging equipment and computers.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements set by the American College of Radiology.
  • Physical stamina for frequent mobility and patient handling.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to ensure high-quality imaging results.
