Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision and adhering to established protocols, the Radiology Intervention Specialist will:

  • Conduct diagnostic interventional examinations using appropriate imaging technology.
  • Confirm patient identity and review medical records to ensure exam appropriateness.
  • Gather patient medical history and assess risk factors, including medications and psychological indicators.
  • Clearly explain procedures to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Prepare equipment and capture necessary images as per established protocols.
  • Review images, document any deviations from protocols, and communicate findings to the radiologist.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as required.
  • Provide post-care instructions as prescribed by the physician.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the radiology department.
  • Offer educational support to residents, student technologists, and new staff.
  • Be available for on-call duties as needed and perform Radiologic Technologist duties when required.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology or Vascular-Interventional Radiography.
  • Completion of American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) training by the end of the orientation period.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months for those in adult settings, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one year for those in cardiology settings.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
Skills Required
  • Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine appropriate radiographic methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under stress.
  • Technical proficiency in operating specialized imaging equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements set by the American College of Radiology.
  • Physical stamina for patient handling and care.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for producing high-quality radiographs.
