Compensation Range

$112,800 - $128,400 Annually

Please note that this salary range is a general guideline. Various factors, including education, experience, the external job market, and internal equity, are considered when determining starting salaries.


Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Photonics Group.

This group comprises a diverse team of scientists and engineers specializing in photonics, nonlinear and ultrafast optics, high-speed RF electronics, digital signal processing, and integrated photonics.


In this role, you will:

  • Conduct research and development in areas such as photonics, fiber optics, nonlinear optics, ultrafast pulse shaping and diagnostics, high-speed/ultra-wideband RF electronics, photonic A/D and D/A conversion, photonic integrated circuits, and digital signal processing.
  • Design, model, construct, implement, and analyze systems in the aforementioned fields.
  • Organize, analyze, and present research data to the team.
  • Contribute to the conception, design, and execution of research aimed at solving defined challenges.
  • Pursue independent research interests while collaborating with a broad range of scientists and engineers, both internally and externally.
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment to achieve research objectives.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences and technical meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.

PhD in Physics, Optics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.


Experience in one or more of the following areas is required: photonics, fiber optics, nonlinear optics, ultrafast pulse shaping and diagnostics, high-speed/ultra-wideband RF electronics, photonic A/D and D/A conversion, integrated photonics, mixed signal circuits, wireless communications, radar, and digital signal processing.


We seek an innovative experimentalist with extensive experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.


Demonstrated ability to develop independent research projects, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed literature.


Strong initiative, interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate and present technical information.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with ultrafast laser sources, diagnostics, high-speed RF instrumentation, and fiber optic devices and systems.

Familiarity with free space optical systems and hybrid systems design and alignment. Experience in building hybrid optical and electronic systems is a plus.

Proficiency in Matlab software and physical wave simulation software such as COMSOL and Lumerical, as well as photonic integrated circuit layout.

Additional Information

This position is a Postdoctoral appointment with the potential for extension up to three years, open to candidates who have completed their PhD by the time of hire.
