About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Scientist to join our team at KMR Search Group. As a Principal Scientist, you will play a key role in driving the development of our novel, single molecule Next Generation Sequencing platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Lead and manage a team of Scientists and Sr. Scientists in the design, planning, and execution of assigned research projects.
    • Mentor and guide team members to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Research and Development
    • Conduct hands-on research activities at the bench, including experimental design, data analysis, and data presentation.
    • Generate technical requirements for new instruments and next-generation sequencing platforms.
    • Validate workflows and applications for new next-generation sequencing platforms.
  • Project Planning and Execution
    • Independently define and plan project goals, and achieve them with the help of the team.
    • Make recommendations and act independently to resolve scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures.
    • Ensure activities are consistent with project critical path, and respond appropriately to changing priorities.
  • Communication and Documentation
    • Accurately and consistently record experimental methods, materials, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
    • Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions, and implement process improvements.
    • Presents findings at group or departmental meetings.
    • Apply advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents.
  • Collaboration and Support
    • Guide team members to plan, prioritize, execute, and analyze experiments.
    • Help team members analyze and interpret results, generate reports, troubleshoot problems, and formulate solutions based on scientific knowledge and past experience.
    • Serve as a resource to other departments, providing timely response and follow-ups.
  • Qualifications
    • Formal Training/Education: MS required in Biology, Chemistry, Biological Science, or equivalent. PhD preferred.
    • Typically 3 years of relevant experience, 6+ years preferred.
    • Experience in team management and mentoring.
    • Knowledge and experience in experimental design, data analysis, and data presentation.
    • Strong communication and organization skills.
    • General molecular biology hands-on skills.
    • Hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing, e.g., Illumina, Ion Torrent, or PacBio platforms.
    • Experience in nucleic acid sample preparation, including DNA/RNA extractions, QC, library construction, target enrichment.
    • Experience with new instrument and platform development.
    • Experience with various types of clinical specimen and sample types for NGS, including purified DNA, bacterial pellets, fresh and FFPE tissue material, blood, etc.
    • Experience in verification/validation experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation.
