Job Responsibilities

The Materials Engineering Division (MED) is actively seeking candidates for the role of Epitaxial Growth Research Scientist, focusing on the development of diamond semiconductor films. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the epitaxial growth and analysis of semiconductor materials. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and development in semiconductor materials and growth techniques.
  • Producing customized diamond films for various high-power and high-speed electronic applications.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and integration specialists to achieve project objectives.
  • Publishing research findings in reputable scientific journals and presenting at industry conferences and technical meetings.
  • Pursuing independent research initiatives that complement team goals while engaging with a wide range of scientists.
  • Ensuring all activities are performed safely in accordance with established ES&H, security, and business practices.
  • Undertaking additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in the growth and characterization of semiconductor films.
  • Familiarity with microfabrication, packaging, or device characterization.
  • Proficiency in software tools (e.g., MATLAB, PYTHON, COMSOL, LUMERICAL, ZEMAX, LABVIEW, SOLIDWORK) for data analysis and collection.
  • Demonstrated capability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad skill set in experimental design and data acquisition.
  • Proven ability to lead independent research projects and publish findings in peer-reviewed literature.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and presentation of technical information.
