Position Summary

We are seeking a Bioassay Scientist to deliver scientific and technical expertise for our environmental research initiatives. This role focuses on understanding the long-term effects of radionuclides in coral atoll ecosystems, evaluating human exposure levels, and developing training programs to enhance knowledge of radiological conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Whole Body Counting (WBC) and Indirect Radio-Bioassay Programs.
  • Conduct thorough quality assurance assessments of WBC data and maintain accurate personnel records.
  • Ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols in program management.
  • Develop and maintain databases, contribute to the Individual Monitoring Program website, and manage Individual Dose Reports for participants.
  • Provide mentorship and training to technicians and students, creating procedural documentation in both English and Marshallese.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of radiometric counting systems, ensuring quality assurance protocols are followed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance procedures and communication tools for program implementation.
  • Contribute to scientific reports, publications, and online content.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, physics, or biology, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with APEX and/or ABACOS 2000 Whole Body Counting software.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Marshallese.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic understanding of health physics and environmental behavior of cesium-137.
  • Familiarity with database management and structures.
