Position Overview

Role Summary

The Youth Engagement Specialist is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, promotion, execution, and assessment of various programs. This position oversees activities related to arts, sports, and educational initiatives. Additionally, the specialist ensures supervision and fosters active participation among club members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, supervises, and evaluates programs and activities to guarantee member safety and program quality.
  • Establishes an environment conducive to achieving Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Acknowledges club members for their involvement and accomplishments in programs.
  • Keeps accurate records to monitor attendance and engagement.
  • Suggests the creation of new initiatives and improvements to current offerings.
  • Encourages and motivates participation in programs.
  • Introduces new members to programs, special events, and club policies, including safety and disciplinary guidelines.
  • Provides mentorship and serves as a role model for members.
  • Engages in training and educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge, as well as participate in team meetings.
  • Maintains discipline among club members in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Oversees and trains volunteers and program assistants.
  • Assesses supply requirements and notifies supervisors when replenishments are necessary.
  • Ensures that supply and program areas are organized and that information boards are up-to-date.
  • Completes and submits all necessary documentation punctually.
  • Identifies and recommends repairs for facilities and equipment as needed.
  • May participate in community outreach, program expansion, and club-related events.
  • Collaborates with team members to deliver high-quality programs, assisting wherever required, which may include operating club vehicles.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; a minimum of two years of college education is preferred.
  • Combination of experience and/or formal training equivalent to at least two years, including:
  • Experience working with youth and a solid understanding of youth development principles.
  • Formal training and/or experience in teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle record check.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Negative TB test result.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Boys & Girls Club setting is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of core areas and general youth development.
  • Proficient in creative planning, implementation of quality youth programs, organizational/project management, and striving for positive outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively manage member interactions, including disciplinary matters. Proven skills in relationship building with young people and their families. Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions and can effectively engage a diverse group of youth while managing time efficiently and completing tasks with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

  • Travel between various sites and community locations is required. Must meet the insurance standards of the organization.
  • Work hours are aligned with school schedules and attendance patterns, requiring evening hours during the academic year; hours may vary during summer and school breaks, with occasional weekend hours necessary.
