ROLE SUMMARY: Covenant House California is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Residential Manager to lead its Safe Haven Program. The Residential Manager (RM) will demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational abilities to effectively oversee, mentor, and guide a team of Youth Engagement Specialists. The focus will be on delivering services that are strength-based, trauma-informed, and centered on harm reduction, all while embodying our mission of providing unwavering respect and unconditional love to every young person.
The RM collaborates closely with the Safe Haven Director (SHD) to manage the daily operations of our emergency shelter program, which accommodates 80 beds. This role includes supervising all shifts within the Safe Haven, ensuring that all staff work cohesively to promote safety, support, and comprehensive programming, in alignment with the Covenant House Mission, Code of Conduct, and established policies.
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Salary, 40 hours per week
SALARY RANGE: $66,560 per year
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and coordinate youth engagement services, ensuring that care provided by Youth Engagement Specialists is respectful and trauma-informed.
- Provide direct supervision, training, and coaching to Youth Engagement Specialists and Youth Safety Advocates, including the recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with the Safe Haven Director.
- Facilitate team meetings for training and information sharing in collaboration with the Safe Haven Director.
- Identify training needs and recommend opportunities for staff development.
- Assist in scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage around the clock.
- Provide emergency staffing support during shortages or crises.
- Review staff timesheets for accuracy and compliance with policies.
- Assign and oversee staff responsibilities during shifts, ensuring proper supervision and engagement with young people.
- Lead daily shift transition meetings to communicate updates and safety concerns.
- Facilitate life skills training and engage with young people in daily activities.
- Monitor the use of petty cash and ensure accurate documentation of expenses.
- Actively participate in success planning meetings with young people and their case managers.
- Document engagement activities and updates in the designated database.
- Conduct monthly safety drills and maintain documentation.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive community among young people and staff.
- Encourage feedback from young people regarding programming and relay suggestions to leadership.
- Monitor program compliance with intake and discharge policies.
- Ensure food service operations comply with health and safety standards.
- Organize activities and workshops to build rapport and community among young people.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Support young people in developing and reviewing their individual success plans.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in human services is preferred; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with youth facing homelessness or other vulnerabilities is essential, along with 1-3 years of management or supervisory experience in a residential setting.
SKILLS: Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care is crucial. Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
TRANSPORTATION: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a full-time position requiring participation in an on-call rotation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of young people and staff.
EQUIPMENT USED: Regular use of computers, telephones, and fax machines.
