The Youth Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of young individuals at the Center. This position is dedicated to providing support and guidance to LGBTQ+ youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a secure and welcoming environment for residents, facilitating their engagement and participation.
- Implement established care protocols to ensure the safety and support of all members.
- Monitor and manage access to residential areas, ensuring compliance with house rules.
- Assist in conflict resolution and de-escalation of tense situations among residents.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the living spaces and communal areas.
- Coordinate and participate in evening and weekend activities to promote community engagement.
- Assess and respond to residents exhibiting severe mental health challenges, collaborating with appropriate support teams.
- Document daily activities and any irregularities, ensuring accurate reporting of incidents.
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding emergency situations and resident needs.
- Support case management efforts by collaborating with other service providers for residents requiring additional assistance.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and understanding their unique challenges.
- At least one year of experience in a related field, particularly with youth facing housing instability.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm-reduction principles.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an emphasis on organization and detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
