Position Summary
The Consumer Loan Assessment Specialist is responsible for evaluating consumer loan applications submitted to the organization. This role involves reviewing application packages to ascertain the eligibility of credit requests based on established lending criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with members regarding loan approvals and denials, maintaining a professional demeanor while providing comprehensive explanations of decisions and future options.
- Promote relevant financial products and services, including GAP insurance, warranties, and other value-added offerings to enhance members' financial well-being.
- Verify identification and ensure proper account funding while confirming membership eligibility through appropriate documentation.
- Assess the accuracy of loan information, including all related documents, and maintain precise member and loan data in the system to facilitate seamless loan processing.
- Respond promptly to credit inquiries and information requests, ensuring thorough documentation of all interactions.
- Make informed credit decisions within designated limits, adhering to current regulations and organizational policies while staying updated on industry trends.
- Gather necessary components for loan applications, such as credit reports, collateral assessments, financial statements, and other relevant data to support sound lending decisions.
- Prepare required loan documentation, including Truth-in-Lending statements and financing agreements, for disbursement.
- Identify opportunities for improvement within the department and actively participate in enhancing processes and functions.
- Support the credit union's annual goals with enthusiasm and commitment.
- Assist members with their loan-related needs to ensure a positive experience.
- Provide financial guidance to members upon request.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to all company policies and relevant regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and the Patriot Act.
Qualifications
Experience
- 1-3 years of relevant experience, including time in preparatory roles.
- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Demonstrated courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in using computers, telephones, ten-key calculators, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong oral and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail are required.
- Primarily sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing stairs in emergencies and operating standard office equipment.
- Work indoors in a climate-controlled environment with minimal noise.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, follow instructions, and communicate clearly. Must handle diverse personalities professionally and maintain high levels of customer service.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and performing under pressure while ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Must exercise discretion regarding confidential matters.
